Dr Todd McGrath, MD

Dr. Todd McGrath is an expert in sports medicine at HSS, specializing in general sports medicine, acute orthopedic injuries, and minimally invasive office procedures. He utilizes bedside ultrasound imaging for precise joint and soft tissue injections, chronic tendinopathy treatments, and platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP). Dr. McGrath also addresses sports-related concussions, conducts biomechanical assessments for runners and cyclists, performs exertional compartment pressure testing, and specializes in the care of endurance athletes. He earned his undergraduate degree from New Mexico State University and his medical degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine, followed by an emergency medicine residency at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. McGrath then enhanced his expertise in sports medicine through a fellowship at Cone Health System in Greensboro, NC, gaining specialized skills in non-operative sports medicine and the care of runners and endurance athletes. Dr. McGrath has extensive experience as a team physician across high school, college, and professional levels. He served as the medical director for the Trans-Sylvania MTB Epic stage race and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League, and has worked with US Soccer's national teams and as a venue medical director for international soccer events in Philadelphia. A prolific author and speaker, Dr. McGrath has contributed to numerous publications and presentations on emergency and sports medicine topics, particularly musculoskeletal ultrasound. His personal achievements as a triathlete, including national and international competitions, Ironman World Championships appearances, and representing the USA at the ITU Long Course Triathlon World Championships, provide him with a profound insight into the needs and care of endurance athletes.
