Dr Nicholas Sgrignoli, MD

Dr. Nicholas Sgrignoli is a dedicated Assistant Attending Physician at Hospital for Special Surgery, with a specialization and board certification in sports medicine. He cares for patients of all ages, with a particular passion for aiding young athletes in their return to sports. Dr. Sgrignoli champions the importance of exercise for health and is committed to helping individuals resume their activities swiftly through non-surgical methods. His expertise covers a wide range of conditions, from acute injuries and fractures to chronic overuse injuries and arthritis. His educational journey began at Messiah College in Pennsylvania, followed by earning his medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine. Dr. Sgrignoli then completed a Family Medicine Residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he developed a strong interest in sports medicine. This led him to further specialize with a fellowship at UC San Diego Health. During his time at UCSD, Dr. Sgrignoli served as the team physician for various sports, including soccer, basketball, rugby, and lacrosse. He has notable experience covering both college and professional sports events, such as soccer matches, Kerri Walsh Jennings' P1440 volleyball tournament, and the San Diego Seals professional indoor lacrosse games. Beyond his professional life, Dr. Sgrignoli has diverse interests in sports like volleyball, soccer, and Gaelic football, and he's an enthusiastic snowboarder. His experience extends to managing injuries related to skiing and snowboarding, adding to his comprehensive understanding of sports medicine.
